Safety Instructions

Read all instructions before use. Battery charging can be hazardous.

  1. Work in well-ventilated area: Batteries produce explosive gases.
  2. Wear eye protection: Shield eyes when working near batteries.
  3. Disconnect AC power before connecting/disconnecting DC clamps.
  4. Connect positive (red) clamp to positive battery terminal first.
  5. Connect negative (black) clamp to negative terminal or vehicle chassis.
  6. Do not charge frozen or damaged batteries.

WARNING! Risk of explosion, electric shock, and acid burns. Follow all safety precautions.

Installation & Setup

Unpack charger and inspect for damage. Ensure work area is dry and well-ventilated.

  1. Place charger: On stable, level surface away from battery.
  2. Check battery: Verify battery is 6V or 12V lead-acid type.
  3. Clean terminals: Remove corrosion from battery posts.
  4. Connect clamps: Follow safety sequence (positive first).
  5. Plug in AC: Connect to 120V outlet after DC connections are secure.

CAUTION! Never connect clamps to each other when powered on.

Specifications

Controls and Indicators

Front Panel: Charge Rate Selector Switch, Voltmeter, Power Indicator Light.

Charge Rate Selector: Three-position switch:
• 2A: For trickle charging and maintaining small batteries
• 10A: For standard charging of automotive batteries
• 50A: For engine start assistance (use for short periods only)

Voltmeter: Shows battery voltage when connected. Normal readings:
• 12V battery: 12.6V (fully charged), 11.9V (discharged)
• 6V battery: 6.3V (fully charged), 5.9V (discharged)

Power Indicator: LED lights when AC power is connected and charger is operational.

Charging Procedures

Follow these steps for safe and effective battery charging.

  1. Preparation: Turn off vehicle and all accessories. Set charger rate selector to OFF.
  2. Connection: Connect red clamp to positive (+) battery terminal. Connect black clamp to negative (-) terminal or clean metal on chassis.
  3. Power On: Plug charger into AC outlet. Power indicator should light.
  4. Rate Selection: Select appropriate charge rate:
    • 2A: For maintenance or small batteries (motorcycle, lawn tractor)
    • 10A: For standard automotive batteries
    • 50A: For engine start only (use maximum 3-5 minutes)
  5. Monitoring: Check voltmeter periodically. Charging is complete when voltage stabilizes at full charge level.
  6. Disconnection: Turn rate selector to OFF. Unplug AC cord. Remove black clamp first, then red clamp.

Tip: Charge time varies by battery size and discharge level. As a guideline: Battery Ah / Charge Rate = Hours (approx.)

Engine Start Function

The 50A setting provides temporary high current to assist starting a vehicle with a weak battery.

  1. Ensure vehicle is in Park/Neutral with parking brake engaged.
  2. Connect clamps following standard safety procedure.
  3. Set charge rate selector to 50A.
  4. Wait 2-3 minutes for battery to receive initial charge.
  5. Attempt to start vehicle while charger is connected and set to 50A.
  6. Once engine starts, immediately set selector to OFF.
  7. Disconnect charger following proper sequence.

WARNING! Do not use 50A setting for regular charging. Use only for engine start assistance for maximum 5 minutes. Do not leave unattended.

Maintenance & Storage

Proper maintenance ensures long charger life and safe operation.

  1. Cleaning: Wipe exterior with dry cloth. Keep ventilation openings clear.
  2. Cable Inspection: Regularly check cables and clamps for damage. Replace if insulation is cracked or metal is corroded.
  3. Clamp Maintenance: Clean clamp jaws periodically to ensure good contact.
  4. Storage: Store in dry location. Coil cables neatly. Keep away from children.

CAUTION! Do not immerse in water or use solvents for cleaning.
