Installation

Unpack and inspect contents. Place charger on stable, dry, level surface away from battery.

  1. Position charger: Ensure charger is in a well-ventilated area, away from flammable materials.
  2. Prepare battery: Ensure battery terminals are clean and free of corrosion.
  3. Connect AC power: Plug charger into a grounded 120V AC outlet. Do not connect to battery yet.
  4. Select charge rate: Set switch to 2A (trickle/maintenance) or 10A (standard charge) based on battery size/condition.

WARNING! Risk of explosive gases. Work in well-ventilated area. Keep sparks, flames away. Wear eye protection.

First-Time Setup

Power on charger; observe LED indicators.

  1. Verify power: Green POWER LED should illuminate when plugged in.
  2. Connect clamps: FIRST connect RED clamp to POSITIVE (+) battery terminal. THEN connect BLACK clamp to NEGATIVE (-) terminal or grounded metal on vehicle frame.
  3. Observe detection: Charger will automatically detect battery voltage (6V or 12V).
  4. Begin charging: CHARGING LED will illuminate. Fan may run intermittently.

CAUTION! Always connect clamps in the specified order to prevent sparking. Ensure clamps have solid metal-to-metal contact.

Specifications

Controls and Settings

Front Panel: POWER LED (green), CHARGING LED (red), CHARGE COMPLETE LED (green), Charge Rate Selector Switch (2A/10A).

Operation: Plug into AC outlet. Select charge rate. Connect to battery. LEDs indicate status.

LED Status Guide:
- POWER (Green Steady): AC power connected, charger ready.
- CHARGING (Red Steady): Battery is accepting charge.
- CHARGE COMPLETE (Green Steady): Battery is fully charged; charger is in maintenance mode.
- CHARGING (Red Blinking): Possible fault (bad cell, sulfation).
- No POWER LED: Check AC outlet and power cord.

Connecting to Battery

Correct connection sequence is critical for safety.

  1. Ensure charger is unplugged from AC outlet and power switch is off.
  2. Clean battery terminals if necessary.
  3. Connect RED clamp to POSITIVE (+) battery terminal.
  4. Connect BLACK clamp to NEGATIVE (-) battery terminal or a clean, unpainted metal part of the vehicle chassis/engine block.
  5. Plug charger into AC outlet. Select charge rate.
  6. To disconnect: Unplug from AC outlet first, then remove BLACK clamp, then RED clamp.

Tip: Connecting the negative clamp to the chassis helps avoid sparks near the battery, which can ignite hydrogen gas.

Charging Process

The microprocessor controls a 3-stage charging cycle.

  1. Bulk Stage: Delivers maximum current (2A or 10A) until battery reaches ~80% charge. CHARGING LED is steady red.
  2. Absorption Stage: Voltage is held constant while current tapers down. Battery reaches ~100% charge.
  3. Float/Maintenance Stage: Voltage is reduced to a safe level to maintain full charge without overcharging. CHARGE COMPLETE LED illuminates green. Charger can be left connected indefinitely for maintenance.

WARNING! Do not leave a charging battery unattended for extended periods initially. Check for excessive heat or gassing.

Safety Features

Reverse Polarity Protection: Prevents operation if clamps are reversed; no damage to charger or battery.
Short Circuit Protection: Safeguards against output shorts.
Overcharge Protection: Microprocessor prevents overcharging by switching to float mode.
Thermal Protection: Fan and internal controls prevent overheating.

Care & Maintenance

Unplug and disconnect from battery before cleaning. Wipe exterior with dry cloth. Keep vents clear of dust. Inspect clamps and cords periodically for damage.

CAUTION! Do not use water or cleaning fluids. Do not disassemble charger. Store in a cool, dry place.

Troubleshooting

SymptomPossible CauseCorrective Action
No LED lights when plugged inNo AC power / Faulty outletCheck outlet with another device; ensure cord is fully plugged in.
POWER LED on, but CHARGING LED does not come onClamps not connected / Poor connection / Reverse polarityCheck clamp connections; clean terminals; ensure correct polarity (red to +).
CHARGING LED blinks redBattery voltage too low / Bad battery cell / SulfationTry a 10A charge for 5-10 mins. If blinking continues, battery may be defective.
Charger seems to stop quicklyBattery already charged / Small batteryNormal. CHARGE COMPLETE LED will illuminate. Verify battery voltage with meter.
Battery gets hot or gases excessivelyOvercharging / Wrong battery type / High charge rate for small batteryDisconnect immediately. Check battery type compatibility. Use 2A rate for small batteries.
Fan runs continuously or is loudHigh ambient temperature / High loadEnsure ventilation is adequate. This may be normal during Bulk stage.

Reset: Unplug from AC and battery for 2 minutes to reset microprocessor.
